Mexico City lawyers have sentenced a group of four human traffickers to 15 years in prison each, in addition to fines of 64,760 pesos ($3,694).
The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office proved that the men are legally responsable for sexually exploiting 13 women in a bar in the Centro neighborhood. On Oct. 10, 2013, a State of Mexico resident was searching for her missing niece, and discovered that she was being forced to work in a bar located on Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas in the Cuauhtémoc borough.
With the goal of recovering the victim, the aunt reported the crime to the special human trafficking prosecutor’s office, who staged an operation on Nov. 5. In the operation, the 13 women were freed and the four men arrested.
The evidence presented by the prosecutors proved that Abraham Benjamín Arreola Martínez and Jesús Pagola Rodríguez were waiters in the bar, while Jonathan Hernández Pérez was a security guard. Miguel Ángel Verdusco León was an accountant and cashier and organized the sexual exploitation of the women, paid for by the costumers.
