Deputy of the Union of Workers of the Health Secretariat Guadalupe Mendoza Ruíz confirmed the halt of activities in health facilities throughout the state. Around 100 Health Centers were on strike across 14 municipalities in the state of Veracruz.
The headquarters of the Health Secretariat in Veracruz was occupied by protesters. A total of 11 hospitals, including the Center for Cancerology and the Hospital of Medical Specialties, and other health institutions were closed since Wednesday morning.
Workers demand the payment of outstanding salaries — as far back as January for administrative personnel and May for medical personnel.
Several activities carried out by the Health Secretariat, such as vaccination brigades and fumigation services in neighborhoods, are suspended, however, medical staff and doctors still tend to emergency cases.
