MEXICO CITY — Walmart of Mexico and Central America, the Ibero-American University and Socialab announced that they will be participating in the Fourth Edition of the Walmart + Ibero Sustainable Innovation Awards. The goal of the event will be to encourage the ideas of young entrepreneurs who wish to make a positive impact on the environment through innovative solutions in sustainability, retail and initiatives that strengthen sustainable lifestyles and consumption.
Anyone 30 years of age or younger; who is enrolled in undergraduate or graduate courses in any Mexican university and who is interested in entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability can participate in the contest.
Registration will be open to interested participants until May 22 and the selection process will be carried out by Socialab’s methodology.
The top three winners, in addition to being awarded a combined total of 150,000 pesos ($8,505) to start their businesses, will also have the chance to enter a 16-week program to develop their project and turn it in to a business model.
According to Antonio Ocaranza, the director of Cooperative Communications for Walmart of Mexico and Central America, more than 490 projects from all over Mexico have been entered since the first Walmart + Ibero Sustainable Innovation Awards, students from 107 universities have participated and 1.9 million pesos have been awarded in seed capital.
