The first step in construction of the new International Airport of Mexico City reports a general progress of 3 percent over a year after its announcement, with infrastructure work scheduled to be concluded by 2018 to enable and yearly mobilization of passengers of 68 millions by 2020.
The Mexico City Airport Group, the agency in charge of the project, detailed that last year the design fase was completed, and during 2016 the removal of debris would be taken care of, along with relocation of wildlife and vegetation, installation of provisional pluvial drainage and the building of a path and perimeter fence.
“The length for the total of the perimeter fence and the path are approximately 30 kilometers, the fence being a highly resistant concrete structure two meters wide and wide and one meter high”, stated Engineer Silverio Reyes on this subject.
The advances include the building of 48 kilometers of temporary roads that allow the mobilization of the machinery. The works also implies the leveling of the terrain that will allow to start cementing runway 2 of the airport.
During the visit to the construction site, the corporate director of infrastructure, Raúl González, pointed out that with 3 percent progress the project is advancing in good time and appropriate manner.With the recent Brussels attacks in mind, he guaranteed that the airport would have the best security standards.
“We are basing ourselves on international IATA norms, the organization that regulates airports and already has the forecasts of how security aviation should be by 2020 which is when our airport will start to operate, therefore having the best security controls in the world”, stated González.
He announced that in April the first bids would be launched for cementing the airport terminal, building and equipping the control tower and the construction of runways 2 and 3 to start by next year.
