First Mexican Victim of Influenza AH3N2 Dies in Nuevo León

MEXICO CITY – The Health Secretariat reported that a woman died due to influenza AH3N2 in Nuevo León. This was the first person killed by the virus during the 2015-2016 winter.

The 40 year-old woman, living with diabetes and hypertension, had not received the vaccine against the virus.

In the state, 187 cases of influenza have been reported so far; 177 are confirmed as AH3N2, four are AH1N1, two are not identified and one is from the B type.

Six deaths for influenza were reported last season in the state.

The agency said that a vaccination campaign aimed to combat influenza started in the winter months.
