Ozone pollution levels excede 150 points in some parts of the Valley of Mexico

The Natural Resources and Environmental Secretariat (Semarnat) asked citizens to prevent children from going outside to play, due to high pollution levels.

Phase One of the Environmental Alert has been declared because ozone pollution levels excede 150 points in some parts of the Valley of Mexico. Semarnat tweeted: “With today’s Environmental Alert in place in the Valley of Mexico, do not let children play outside. Let’s work together so that this does not happen again.”

During a 1.01 minute video broadcast on the @SEMARNAT_mx Twitter account, the image of a school is displayed, where students are in the classroom and look out the window at the empty school yard.

In another image, two infants are observed inside their houses with sad faces because they can not go outside to play.

“When our children can no longer play freely, something serious is happening. There is no wind this season, which is why contaminants that damage our health do not disperse. And we all produce them. If you are polluting, you hurt us. When you cheat, you hurt us. When you burn garbage, you hurt us. We have to pollute less,” the video says.

Therefore, the Megalopolis Environmental Commission recommended that residents share cars, not light bonfires, avoid gas leaks, turn off lights not being used and make use of bicycles.
