XALAPA, Veracruz — The Prosecutor’s Office of the Executive Branch of the State of Veracruz started criminal proceedings against the former Secretary of Public Security Antonio Bermúdez Zurita, and the former Secretary of Administration and Finance Gabriel Deantes, also former Secretary of Labor.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office found evidence of possible offenses which the arraignment judge will determine if they are bound to the proceedings, and lead to an arrest warrant.
Reports disclosed that Bermúdez Zurita is charged with influence peddling and abuse of authority during his tenure under Duarte’s administration.
On Aug. 4, Bermúdez Zurita resigned from his position a few hours after it was disclosed that he and his wife owned five properties —valued in over $ 2.4 million dollars — on the residential compound of The Woodlands Creekside Park in Houston, Texas.
Gabriel Deantes Ramos is charged with illicit enrichment. He served as secretary of Administration and Finance, Chief Clerk of the Education Secretariat of Veracruz and secretary of Labor and Social Welfare.
