In a statement, parastatal company Diconsa said it has bought 2,000 tons of white maize in order to ensure a continuous supply in the state of Chiapas.
“We have been delivering 70 tons of maize per day since last Monday and in the coming days the delivery volume will double,” said Diconsa.
The type of maize acquired costs 6.5 pesos ($0.3) per kilogram in the supply centers but the beneficiaries of Diconsa can obtain it at 4.5 pesos since October 2015, which represents a saving of 30 percent.
During 2015, Diconsa sold 80,736 tons of maize in Chiapas, a figure representing 12.3 percent of total domestic sales, through its 24 rural stores and its 2,032 community stores.
