The 2nd ordinary session of the 63rd legislature was called to order in San Lázaro BY YVONNE REYES CAMPOS The News MEXICO CITY – The second ordinary session of the 63rd legislature started with an attendance of 372 federal deputies out of 500 and 76 senators out of 128. The ceremonial meeting brought together legislators from all political parties on the premises of the San Lázaro legislative chamber. Member of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) Jesús Zambrano, president of Congress, declared the opening of the session after it was declared that there was quorum. The ceremony lasted less than five minutes. Afterwards, the legislators sang the national anthem and made the declaration of installation. Then, the senators left the plenary hall and the first session of the Chamber of Deputies began. One of the property issues to be discussed in the current session period will be the secondary law of the National Anti-Corruption System, said Zambrano. The Chamber of Deputies approved different reforms to various articles of the Law on the Mexican Army and Air Force Promotions and Rewards, in order to extend the circumstances for granting awards for distinguished merit and services both to military personnel and civilians, Mexican and foreign, for acts benefiting the Armed Forces. Deputy Virgilio Daniel Méndez Bazán, a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), said that these reforms will allow to grant medals from national institutions to civilians and not just military personnel. It was proposed that the Military Merit medal could be granted by the president of Mexico to military or civilian, both nationals and foreigners.
