Mario Di Constanzo, head of the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users (Condusef), reported that the number of identity theft cases has increased by 200 percent in the last four years.

In an interview made after his participation in the “Social Economy in Mexico” forum organized by the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) legislators at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro, Di Constanzo said that data shows that the rate of identity theft crimes increased from 15,000 cases in 2011 to 92,000 in 2015.

Investigations show that there are European and Central American criminal gangs which engage in unlawful acts of this kind in Mexico.

A protocol and a national identity theft system have already been implemented throughout the country due to the increase in the number of such crimes, where victims can give notice to the National Banking and Securities Commission and, if necessary, to the Tax Administration System (SAT).
