On Thursday, the teachers of Section 7 National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), which represents teachers in Chiapas, opened up the entrances to shopping malls they had been occupying, but began blockades at entrances to the offices of the Education Secretariat.
The blockades are in response to the suspension of dialogue between the CNTE and the Interior Secretariat (Segob). Future negotiations are hoped to finally put an end to the strike that has kept schools in Chiapas closed for more than 110 days.
The blockades of the offices of the Education Secretariat and other government buildings are planned to last until Friday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the CNTE plans to march from Park Chiapasionate to the Central Plaza of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
