MEXICO CITY – Veracruz Gov. Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares accused the former administration of providing water instead of chemotherapy to patients. Yunes Linares stated during a press conference that thorough research found evidence of medical fraud carried out by Javier Duarte’s administration.
“Results of the investigation show that medication supplied to children — chemotherapy — were really inert compounds, basically distilled water,” said Yunes Linares. He added that the investigation is still undergoing and claims will soon be filed.
This new accusation adds to Duarte’s existing charges of money laundering. Several employees and officers claimed that during Duarte’s tenure most of the funds allocated to programs vanished or were embezzled.
