At 6:30 a.m., teachers from the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) occupied the Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, blocking access for passengers.
Thousands of teachers from the Chiapas Teachers and Popular Movement marched to the entrance of the airport, which continues to be occupied, as part of the union’s political action strategy.
They will continue intensifying political protests as the Interior Secretariat (Segob) has not been able to reach a solution to their principal demands: canceling the education reform and ending repression against the movement.
CNTE members have been on strike for more than 70 days. Aurelio Nuño, Education Secretary (SEP), is holding negotiations with Segob and the teachers union, which so far have not resolved the central demands.
