The state of Chiapas, under Gov. Manuel Velasco Coello, has promoted and supported science, culture and the arts by recognizing local artists whose work in various areas contribute to enriching the state’s cultural heritage.
Poet Oscar Wong and anthropologist Andrés Fábregas Puig received the 2015 Chiapas Award from Velasco Coello. The Chiapas Award is the highest distinction awarded to creators in the state.
During his speech, Velasco Coello said that Wong and Fábregas Puig have now joined the select list of winners who have been awarded the distinction over the last 65 years.
Upon receiving the award, Wong thanked the attendees and the state authorities and said that it is an incredible reward for his efforts of more than four decades in the literary world. Fábregas Puig said that it is important to share scientific knowledge responsibly.
