The famed Michoacán cartoonist, Eduardo del Río, better known by his pen name, “Rius,” died on Tuesday morning in Tepoztlán, Morelos. He was 83.
One of the most popular Mexican cartoonists, Rius published over 100 books and was a widely known name throughout Latin America. As a fierce liberal and political activist, he had been a public critic of recent Mexican politics, as well as United States government policies and the Catholic Church.
“Rius made the best political caricatures,” Morelos’ Gov. Graco Ramírez said on his Twitter account.
