MEXICO CITY — At a forum held on the campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), candidates for the upcoming Mexico City Constitutional Assembly raised the issues of balancing power, eliminating jurisdiction, reducing the number of legislators, the process of reelection, transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.
Proposals were presented at a forum organized by the National Electoral Institute (INE) with the theme, “Legislatura de la Ciudad de México: composición, atribuciones y proceso legislativo,” (“Mexico City Legislature: Composition, Functions and Legislative Process”) held by the law department of UNAM.
This democratic exercise involved participation from candidates of eight political parties, and four running as independents, although absent from the forum was Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) candidate Julio Cesar Moreno.
