Authorities hope to help recover the chinampa area and provide ongoing economic support for local residents

The World Natural and Cultural Heritage of Humanity Authority in Xochimilco, Tláhuac and Milpa Alta invited Mexico City residents to present a project to recover the chinampa zone of Mexico City.

The objective is to promote and conserve agricultural development among chinamperos, through economic and/or in-kind support for native crops of vegetables and flowers with good agricultural practices.

In addition, they hope to support the population of the Zona Patrimonio and to promote a solidarity economy and fair trade. This will help locals find work and good quality food.

They pointed out that up to 60 chinampas that meet the requirements established by the guidelines, as the budget allows, should benefit.

The list of applications that are approved will be available for consultation through the organization’s website.
