The three branches of government announced an agreement to work together to strengthen the new criminal justice system Monday in the Official Gazette of the Mexican government.
In August 2009, an coordination council was created to implement the new system. The goal of the council was to analyze and agree upon national coordination policies. The council was decommissioned on June 18, 2016.
The announcement said that the establishment of the new system has been successful, and that similar strategies of collaboration will be successful in working towards consolidating the system.
The three branches of government agreed to maintain permanent channels of communication, and to exchange experience and information.
The three branches will create a new body that will act as a link between them.
States will decide whether they want to join the new agreement, which will end on Dec. 31, 2018.
Last Saturday, June 18, the new criminal justice system, which is an accusatory or adversarial system, took effect.
