José Refugio Rodríguez, attorney of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, denied that the former drug lord is involved in the murder of federal judge Vicente Antonio Bermúdez Zacarías which took place in Metepec, State of Mexico on Monday.
Rodríguez noted during an interview that there is no reason to link Guzmán Loera to the judge’s death, this clarification rose after several media outlets pointed out that the late judge was responsible for revoking the repeal of extradition sought by Guzmán Loera.
The attorney also stated that the judge’s resolution did not affect nor benefit Guzmán Loera in any way, and mentioned that the request to repeal extradition is a strategy used only to gain time.
Rodríguez said he regretted the judge’s death, but pointed out that the judge had not procured private security to guarantee his safety. Rodríguez also urged the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation of the case.
