Activist Miriam Elizabeth Rodríguez Martínez, leader of the collective for victims of forced disappearances in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, was murdered by an armed squad in her home on Wednesday, May 10.

Rodríguez Martínez’s work as an activist began in 2014 when she joined the collective Desaparecidos San Fernando (Disappeared People from San Fernando) after her daughter was kidnapped, whose body was later found in a clandestine grave. Rodríguez Martínez independent investigations led to the eventual capture of the perpetrators. Since then, she devoted her time to helping mothers in similar situations.
Tamaulipas governor Francisco Javier Cabeza de Vaca condemned the activist’s murder.
