MEXICO CITY — Prosecutors in Mexico City say police have rescued 87 women, including three minors, who were being forced to work as prostitutes at illegal bars in a densely populated, poor district of the capital.

A statement from the city prosecutor’s office said Sunday that the raids were triggered by citizen complaints about four underground bars in one part of the Iztapalapa neighborhood. Iztapalapa is Mexico City’s most populated district and crime is high there.

Prosecutors say eight people have been arrested on suspicion of sexually exploiting the rescued women.
