What You’re Doing This Weekend in Mexico City

THURSDAY

For lovers of international films, the Cineteca Nacional is currently hosting the Romanian Film Festival and Thursday is the festival’s last day with showings at 5 and 8:30 p.m, tickets are 40 pesos.

As part of LGBTQ pride month, TimeOut alongside the International Sexual Diversity Festival presents the “Dance of  All Times Vol. 2,” that will take place at the Paradise Club in the Historic Center at 8 p.m.

FRIDAY

A foodies dream come true, the 4th World Flavors and Artisanal Works Festival in Coyoacán, brings together artwork and food from 30 countries like Iraq, Cuba, India and Japan.

Once you’re in Coyoacán and you’ve probably filled your stomach with food at the festival, head over to bar Mezcalero, a small locale, that’s a little bit further away from the noise and crowds of downtown Coyoacán. The bar offers a great variety of mezcal, ask for the “off the menu” items and if you get hungry again, the food is great and very well served.

SATURDAY

Saturday offers no shortage of activities for everybody.

Whether you are part of the LGBTQ community in Mexico, or not, The 39 LGBTQ Pride Parade is a great opportunity to advocate for equality and human rights. This year’s theme is “Respect my family, my freedom and my life”, the march will take off from the Angel of the Independence at 10 a.m. and will travel towards the Zócalo, the event is free and everyones is welcomed.

As part go the LGBTQ pride parade celebrations, La Batea Show Center will be hosting the party Love is Love, that will include María Daniela and her Laser Sound. La Batea is located at San Francisco Pimentel 78 in San Rafael. The event starts at 7 p.m. and tickets start at 250 pesos.

For fans of the 1962 novel and subsequent 1971 move “A Clockwork Orange, Foro Clavería, located at Avenida Clavería 22, will transform into the movie’s Milk Bar and offer various milk cocktails and other surprises. The event starts at 9 p.m. and entrance is free.

SUNDAY

If you’re in the mood for some culture, head over to the Palacio de Minería at Tacuba 5, Historic Center, to attend the exhibit titled “The Inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci,” brought to Mexico by the Sophia Foundation. The exhibit features replicas of inventions by the most famous artist of all times. There will also be music, workshops and classes. The event starts at 10 a.m. and entrance is free.

Fifteen Mexican beer producers will showcase their products at the Cervecita Fest at Foro Clavería 22. The event will offer artisan beers from across the country as well as beer cocktails and music from acts like Eddie and the Doo Brothers. The event starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m.. Tickets are 50 pesos.

The best motorbike riders of Mexico and Latin America will compete in the Latin American Championship at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. All riders will use the same bike from brand Italika. The event starts at 11 a.m. and general admission is 200 pesos.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Night of pre-Hispanic Legends Teotihuacán 2017: If you are looking for a non-traditional weekend experience, then this Saturday’s event is a great option. It includes a tour through ancient towns, shows and bike rides as well as a chance to take a ride on a hot air balloon. The event will take place at Deportivo Braulio Romero, Francisco Villa 96 in San Martín de las Pirámides. Entrance is limited to 700 people, tickets are 190 pesos for adults and 100 pesos for children ages four to 12. More info and tickets here.

The Two Faces of January (Netflix): For those that think that the weekend is better spent indoors while relaxing and watching a movie, then this film will make a great addition to your night in. Vigo Mortensen and Kristen Dunst play a wealthy U.S. couple vacationing in Greece, where they meet a U.S. tour guide played by Oscar Isaac. The story takes off from there with great pace, drama, chaos and action.
