THURSDAY
Writers, performers, artists or just brave gals who want to join the 6th edition of the poetry slam #SlamFeMx are welcome to bring all their words and all their might to Punto Gozadera. This session is the last opportunity to get into the grand finale of the National League of Feminist Slam Poetry, so don’t miss it. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. and entrance is free.
FRIDAY
Join the students of the National School for the Blind on a very special tour around Mexico City’s downtown. As part of the activities of Foro Mutante — which works as a space of reflection on the intersections of music, identity, and creativity — the “Blind Walk: A Sonic Exploration” will show you a new way to perceive this part of the city. The walk is free of charge and starts at 2 p.m. from the Centro Cultural de España.
Visit Bucareli 69, one of the most interesting music venues in the city. The place is hosting “Menos Máscaras, Más Voz” an all-female line-up gathered for an experimental evening across mediums. This exercise in improvisation will try to answer questions regarding authenticity and the self. In a nutshell: pure talent in unexpected forms. Entrances is 50 pesos and doors open at 9 p.m.
SATURDAY
Treat yourself to the dance performance La noche del mundo at Casa del Lago. Rather than a show, Aura Arreola’s brain child is an exploration of the body and its subconscious response to experiences of confinement, skillfully staged through several performance techniques such as immersive theater and butoh. Product of a thorough research and accompanied by experimental music, this presentation will very likely make a deep impression. Tickets are 150 pesos and teacher, student and senior discounts are available. Casa del Lago, 7 p.m.
You know there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, but only pleasure itself. That is why Bahía Bar — the Colossus of Tolsá — brings you “Nacotheque,” a party featuring only music in Spanish. Old, new and forgotten tracks will make sure you dance, sing, remember or cry your heart out. No judgement. All fun. Marcelo C. Baez, DJ and mastermind behind this party, has made a special pledge to deliver a magical evening in his beloved “Chilangolandia.” Entrance is 50 pesos and doors open at 10 p.m.
SUNDAY
Get up early, bring your best friend and head to Hipódromo de las Américas. Also call your other friends and invite them to the Perrotón, a charitable event that raises money for “Cambia un destino,” a non-profit that provides medical and foster care to stray dogs. To enroll in the race, you need to make a donation of 4 kg of dog food and register online. This family-friendly event caters for people with special needs as well as elders, providing a special circuit for them. Don’t forget to bring your pet’s leash and be there at 7 a.m.
