What You’re Doing This Weekend in Mexico City

THURSDAY

NBA World Games opens in the Mexico City Arena on Thursday and will be putting on a host of events until Sunday evening. There will be something for everyone including a free NBA Fanzone with Gary Payton and Shawn Marion in Chapultepec park.

FRIDAY

If you often think your voguing skills are better than everyone else’s, spend your Friday night with House of Drag at Punto Gozadera and prove yourself. Doors open at 9 p.m. but the event starts at 10 with some of the best dancers from the city competing for the prize, which will be the accumulation of everyone’s 20 peso entrance fee.

If you haven’t seen it yet, head over to Teatro Milán (Foro Lucerna) for RENT at 9 p.m. The show will include music by Jonathan Larson and will be directed by Diego del Río and star Kike Jiménez, Rodolfo Zarco and Gimena Gómez, among others. SATURDAY

Spend the night underneath the stars in the Botanical garden in Chapultepec park with your significant other for the “Nocturnal picnic.” Although entrance is free, you can get a picnic basket filled with goodies for 300 pesos. The event begins at 7 p.m.

SUNDAY

For literature lovers and their little ones, spend your Sunday at “Stories of flavors, colors, and delicious authors” in Centro Cultural de España. At noon, music will help narrate the beautiful stories of Benjamín Briseño. Entrance is free.

If you don’t have little ones, but still want a literary Sunday, join the literary tour through the neighborhood of Santa María de la Ribera. The group is meeting at the Kiosco Morisco at 10 a.m. and will move through the houses of Enriqueta Camarillo, Jaime Sabines and Murillo Cornado. It will feature recitations of poems by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Enrique González Martínez. The tour costs 20 pesos.
