What You’re Doing This Weekend in Mexico City

For all of you who couldn’t get tickets to the now sold-out Radiohead concert, The News has compiled a list of events to sooth your pain and fear of missing out.

THURSDAY

Today is the last night for Shorts Mexico, which has been running all week and features some of the most talented Mexican filmmakers. If you haven’t yet caught any of the shorts, head to one of the many locations listed on their Facebook page to see the last screenings.

Also tonight, watch the Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala at the Sports Palace at 8:30 p.m. More tickets have just been released online for all of you who didn’t get yours during the first round.

FRIDAY

The National Architecture Museum in the Palacio de Bellas Artes is featuring work by Javier Senosiain, a prominent, if not the most important, practitioner and theorist of organic architecture. The exhibit will run from Sept. 9 to Feb. 12 2017. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and tickets cost 60 pesos.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Guadalajara-born heartthrob Alejandro Fernández will be performing his ballads at the Auditorio Nacional at 8:30 p.m. The tickets start at 360 pesos but many sections have already sold out.

At the same time you can watch classic Mexican rock band Molotov play at the Sports Palace as they celebrate 20 years together. Mixing genres and languages, Molotov is known for crossing boundaries with their politically-charged songs like “Frijolero,” their biggest single to date.

At night, make your way over to the Ruta Sonora Fest at Pasagüero. In celebration of Patricia Peñaloza’s 15th year of her nightlife column in La Jornada, bands like Big Big Love, Ayer Amarillo and Los Licuadora will be playing, with DJ sets by Priscila and Marcela from Quiero Club. The tickets cost 200 pesos before the event, and you can find more information on their Facebook event page.

SATURDAY

On Saturday and Sunday, The Vegan Bazar is having a Vegan Taco and Snack Fair in the Morelos Garden. From 12 to 8 p.m. you can stop by and get your vegan yummies. Check out their Facebook page for more info.

Saturday evening, with your family or your boo, hang out at the Botanical Gardens for a nighttime picnic with live Mariachi starting at 8 p.m. The event is free and if you don’t feel like bringing your own picnic basket you can get one there (for 300 pesos) that includes, red wine, chocolates, fruits, candles and other snacks.

SUNDAY

At the Centro Cultural de España your little ones can also be filmmakers. The workshop put on by Vientos Culturales (Cultural Winds) is aimed at kids ages six to 12 and will teach them how to write a script, how to film a short and how to carry out postproduction. The workshop runs weekly and you can find more information, like where to signup, on Timeout.
