At a news conference, Francisco Maass Peña, Quality and Regulation Sub Secretary of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur), announced that a gastronomic exhibition, which will feature conferences and panel discussions, titled “¿Por qué mezcal?” (“¿Why mezcal?”) will be held from Feb. 25 to 27 in Mexico City.
Hipócrates Nolasco, president of the Mezcal Regulation Board, said that the benefits of this alcoholic beverage will be discussed through conferences and round tables on the economic importance of the distillate.
Mezcal producers recorded a growing economic trend from 2010 to 2015, increasing production by 40 percent. The domestic market increased from 270,000 liters to 1.5 million during that time, said Nolasco. The exhibition aims to strengthen and promote mezcal, he added.
The exhibition will be held at Punto México, a space dedicated to show the work of Mexican artisans located in the Sectur facilities.
