The Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) unanimously choose Luxor, Egypt, to be the world tourism capital for 2016.
Egypt chaired the 103rd session of the UNWTO, held in Malaga, Spain, between May 9 and May 11 of this year under the title “Tourism and Security: Towards a Framework for Safe, Secure and Seamless Travel.”
About 20 tourism ministers and delegations from more than 50 countries and representatives of 500 tourist organizations and agencies from 130 countries attended the session.
Luxor was unanimously chosen by 50 countries to host the activities of the 104th session from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 of this year.
Luxor will likewise host the 5th Global Summit on City Tourism from Nov 1 through Nov. 3, an event at which the participants are expected to exceed those who attended the Malaga meeting.
