With a state of force of 500 elements from the Directorate of Public Security and Transit of the municipality of Ecatepec and the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City, the “Safe Passenger” operation was launched with the purpose of combat assaults on public transport units, which will operate in the border areas between both entities.
The operation began early this Wednesday at the intersection of the Periférico Ring and León de los Aldama Avenue, in the Gustavo A. Madero Mayor’s Office, by the Municipal President of Ecatepec Fernando Vilchis Contreras and the Chief of the Capital Police, Omar Garcia Harfuch.
The security reinforcement will be installed in four points (two of them will be itinerant) in which there will be presence of units of the SSC and the Municipal Police, these are strategic points in which roads of Mexico City and the State of Mexico converge. Mexico:
• On Francisco Morazán Avenue.
• Central Avenue.
• Centennial Avenue.
• León de los Aldama and Periferico
At these points, the elements of both corporations will carry out revisions in the public transport units, implement reconnaissance and prevention routes, and support road works.
Mayor Luis Fernando Vilchis Contreras assured that with the agreement that has been established with the Government headed by the Head of Government Claudia Sheinbaum, coordination has been tightened in this type of tasks that will be permanent.
“These operations start at 4 in the morning at strategic points in the municipal territory, and thanks to this, a 40% reduction in the incidence of crime due to theft from public transport was achieved.”
“We will have a coordination with the authorities of Mexico City, our elements and our commands have already agreed to be able to implement this type of permanent tasks with the idea of improving every day more in terms of security.”
At the point where the “start flag” was given at 6 o’clock in the morning, the authorities began the inspection of public transport users at the four strategic points indicated.
Vilchis Contreras, pointed out that in Ecatepec there are active and permanent operations to reduce assaults on passengers who go to Mexico City very early to get to their jobs or schools, however, with this coordination they will be able to arrest criminals. that they try to enter through the limits of the municipality with the mayor’s office Gustavo A. Madero.
“I have operations in Casa de Morelos, Venta de Carpio, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc and Vía Morelos, the other main roads also have fixed points. If the delinquency of the city comes to Ecatepec and passes this point, I can stop it in any place that I already mentioned”.
For his part, Secretary García Harfuch highlighted that from 2019 to date there has been a drop of almost 45 percent in the incidence of crime.
“Since we began this start to strengthen the Safe Passenger operation, we have had five detainees, including one in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office, people have received the operation very well, they feel safe and like to see the presence of the police, He really likes the coordination with the authorities of the State of Mexico, of Ecatepec and knowing that we are here to serve them.”
And he highlighted the extraordinary coordination achieved with the municipality of Ecatepec to reduce crime rates in public transport.
“From 2019 to 2021, we have seen a drop of almost 45 percent in the incidence of crime and since we started this start to strengthen the Safe Passenger Operation we have had five detainees, including one in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office.”
