APPS & BOTS
Digital movies are the newest step in our ever growing movie collections. Calling it a new step is a bit of an understatement, considering the concept has been here for quite a while now. The difference is that is now picking up steam with regular viewers instead of just with movie fans. Nowadays, it’s rare to see a blu-ray combo that doesn’t say “digital copy.” But what does that mean exactly?
It means that inside the blu-ray there’s a code for you to input online and then you get the movie downloaded onto your computer or device, which means you don’t have to buy the movie twice, which was the case before. But out of all the options which provider should you choose? Well, here at The News we’ll help you out in choosing which movie provider is best for you.
Vudu
Pros:
-Ability to download movies for offline watching
-Supports Ultraviolet which means you have access to your Ultraviolet/Flixster movies.
-Available on almost any device
-Supports Disney Movies Anywhere
-4K support and 4K titles
Cons:
-Not as known as its competitors
-Interface needs work
Itunes
Pros:
-Ability to download movies for offline watching
-Supports Disney Movies Anywhere
-Still one of the top-notch companies when it comes to digital movies, rentals and TV shows.
-Very easy to manage
-Connectivity with anything Apple related
Cons:
-iTunes still hasn’t caught the 4K bug
-Can only watch your movies/shows on Apple devices
Ultraviolet: Technically called a “Cloud Locker” it keeps your collection on the cloud. It’s not a company as iTunes or Vudu so to speak, but it does have a lot of movie titles. That’s why it’s included in this small list. You can connect UV with Vudu, but you can’t connect it with iTunes. Well what we mean is that you won’t find your UV library mixed in with your iTunes library, but you can use the apps that go with UV.
The bottom line is that both of the main services have their pros and cons, but they both work really well so far. If you have mostly Apple products, then iTunes might be the one for you. But if you have both, then you might go for Vudu. Or you can just get both.
