The dollar gained 14 centavos Tuesday to close at a selling price of 18.75 pesos in Mexico City banks. Banks purchased the dollar for 17.95 pesos.
The euro gained 17 centavos to close at 21.16 pesos, while the pound and yen closed at 0.146 pesos and 24.70 pesos, respectively.
Mexico’s Central Bank (Banxico) set the official exchange rate at 18.3202 pesos per dollar.
Analysts from CI Bank told a Mexican news agency that the peso’s loss in value is related to Standard and Poor’s downgrading Mexico from “stable” to “negative” Tuesday.
